Answers to frequently asked questions from active participants
Frequently asked questions
if you’re building up a pension now
Are you currently building up a pension with Pensioenfonds Robeco? Then the changes affect you most. The pension you have built up will move into a personal pension pot, and you will have more choices in future. On this page you’ll find answers to the questions that apply specifically to your situation. Looking for answers to questions that apply to everyone? Take a look at the general questions.
Yes. The biggest change is that the pension you have built up in the basic scheme will be converted into a personal pension pot. This pot is then combined with any UOP capital you hold. From that moment on, your contributions go straight into this pot. Positive and negative investment returns will be processed monthly. We recommend keeping an eye on your pension.
The survivor’s pension will continue to exist, but it is changing. You can find more information about the survivor’s pension here. In addition, during 2027 you will be able to choose a risk profile for your total pension capital (just as you can already do for your UOP capital).
Active participants will have a number of choices to make:
- choosing a risk profile that suits you (defensive, neutral, aggressive, or aimed at buying a fixed pension);
- taking part in the voluntary additional savings scheme (for salary above €89,233);
- choices around retirement, such as retiring earlier or later, a higher/lower pension, exchanging your partner’s pension, and the choice between a fixed or variable pension at your retirement date. The fund itself only offers a variable pension.
Under the new scheme, the capital in your pension pot is invested according to a lifecycle. Younger participants have a longer time horizon, so their capital is invested more adventurously. That risk is scaled back as you get older. The risk profile you choose determines how quickly this happens and to what extent. From the moment existing pensions are transferred, all participants follow the neutral lifecycle. Once all the checks have been completed, during 2027, you will be able to make your own choice.
Yes. The extended retirement scheme will continue to exist. It allows participants with a salary above € 89,233 to build up extra pension (up to the maximum allowed for tax purposes). What will change is that the current age-related sliding scale becomes a fixed contribution rate of 15% of salary above € 89,233.
The capital you have built up in the DC scheme will also be converted to the new scheme. It will be combined with the capital created when your entitlements in the basic scheme are converted.
The compensation for the end of the average premium system is intended for active participants who build up a pension with the fund both before and after the transition. This applies to participants aged between 35 and 66. See also the general FAQ on compensation.
The amount differs from participant to participant. The compensation depends on:
- age;
- pensionable salary;
- part-time percentage;
- the fund’s financial position on 1 January 2027.
The compensation is paid from the fund’s assets.
If, before the move to the new scheme, you:
- start working fewer hours;
- leave the company; or
- receive a different salary,
this will affect the amount of compensation.
If you become (partly) unable to work, your pension build-up continues (in part), for both the basic scheme and the voluntary additional savings scheme. For the part for which you are unable to work, Pensioenfonds Robeco pays the contributions towards your pension.
Participants who are unable to work and continue to build up a pension without paying contributions are treated as active participants under the compensation scheme. The condition is that they are still building up a pension on this basis with the fund on the reference date.
For active participants, the survivor’s pension is covered on a risk basis.
The partner’s pension you have built up by the transfer date will be converted into capital under the new scheme. If you die while employed, your partner receives:
- 32% of your final salary (up to the tax limit of €137,800);
- a temporary supplement of €5,000 a year for as long as your partner is below state pension age;
- the partner’s pension built up under the old scheme.
Children receive an orphan’s pension of 40% of the partner’s pension, until they turn 25.
When you leave the company, the cover continues for up to three months. After that it stops automatically. Have you found a new job? Check what has been arranged for your survivor’s pension there.
You can also choose to continue this cover voluntarily (for example because you don’t have a new job). This is at your own expense: the premium is then paid out of your pension capital.
Yes, the capital for the partner’s pension is invested. In addition, if you choose a variable pension with the pension fund at your retirement date, the partner’s pension will also move with the investment returns.
You can register your partner via My Pension on our website pensioenfondsrobeco.nl. You don’t need to register your children.
